White House Condemns Louisiana’s Criminalizing of Abortion…

The White House on Monday released a statement condemning the Louisiana Legislature for approving a bill that would increase the criminal consequences for abortion providers. In his statement, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Roe v. Wade had been “consistently upheld by the Supreme Court” — a statement at odds with what legal experts say.


Section: The Louisiana House of Representatives gave final passage Thursday to Senate Bill 342 — sponsored by Democrat state Sen. Katrina Jackson — which increases the penalties to one to 10 years of prison time and fines of $10,000 to $100,000 for abortion providers, the Louisiana Illuminator reported.


Section: An existing statute allows for prison terms of one to five years and fines of $5,000 to $50,000.
